DRMC receives APEX Award for excellence in skin care and infection prevention
DuBois Regional Medical Center recently received the VHA Mid-Atlantic 2012 APEX, or Achieving Patient Care Excellence, award.
Three different award levels were possible, and DRMC received the highest honor, level three, for meeting three categories. The three were:
• Eliminating central-line catheter-associated blood stream infections for at least a consecutive 12-month period, which DRMC did from July 1, 2011 to June 30, 2012;
• Eliminating ventilator associated pneumonia, VAP, for at least a consecutive 12-month period, which DRMC did from July 1, 2011 to June 30, 2012;
• Eliminating pressure ulcers for at least a consecutive six-month period from July 1, 2011 to June 30, 2012.
DRMC receives Highmark recognition for diabetes care
Highmark Blue Cross/Blue Shield recently presented DRMC with a Quality Blue Best Practices Forum award. The aware recognizes DRMC’s high compliance for A1C testing and low hyperglycemia rates for admitted patients compared to all other facilities participating in the diabetes initiative in fiscal year 2012. The A1C test measures the average blood glucose control for the past two to three months. It is determined by measuring the percentage of glycated hemoglobin, or HbA1c, in the blood. Hyperglycemia is high blood sugars.
