The LiteGait is a body-weight supported gait trainer which utilizes an overhead harness and
suspension system to enable patients to practice walking, overground or over a treadmill, in a
safe and supported environment. Physical therapists use this tool to provide a dynamic, task
specific approach involving weight bearing, stepping, and balance. This device can be used for a
variety of patient populations including those with a stroke, spinal cord injury, brain injury,
Parkinson’s disease, and many others. The LiteGait allows for early walking after an illness or
injury, decreasing recovering time and improving overall rehabilitative potential.
Vital Stim (neuromuscular electrical stimulation/NMES) is a relatively new approach involving
electrical stimulation, therapeutic exercise and compensatory strategies to improve swallowing
and the quality of life for many stroke and neurologically impaired patients.
Modified Barium Swallow Studies – Video fluoroscopy is the study of swallowing and is
completed by a Speech Language Pathologist in the radiology department. The Speech
Language Pathologist develops and implements a treatment plan based on the results of the
study.
The SaeboFlex is a custom designed hand splint used by stroke or brain injury survivors. This
system of springs allows the patient to perform hand grasp and release activties improving range
of motion, motor control and overall hand and arm function.
The Stroke Survivor Group affiliated with Health Hope Network (formerly Visiting Nurse
Foundation), provides support for stroke survivors and their families. For three hours once a
week, stroke survivors and their caregivers meet with qualified group leaders to strengthen the
body, mind, and spirit through physical exercise, mental exercise, and socialization. The shared
friendships, support, understanding, and caring they receive is invaluable.
